It has become somewhat of a tradition now. Our group of friends heads to Big Day Out at the Gold Coast – followed by a weekend of relaxation somewhere in the Byron hinterlands. In 2008, we organised a beautiful house in Eureka – about 20 minutes drive from Byron Bay. No to be outdone this year, we rented a fantastic place in Possum Creek – 10 minutes closer.

Unfortunately, because I am planning on taking 10 months off, I wasn’t able to take the full week off work to spend in Byron. Instead, I took Friday off work and drove down with Jeni on the Thursday night.

The moment you step into the house you are instantly relaxed. The place is so open and large that it feels more like a hotel lobby than a house. I think I got the best impression by arriving at night. The place has fantastic lighting that really shows it off. And then in the morning, you walk in again and get the feeling all again when you can see the house and the view in all it’s glory.

The house is more like a tree house, and with two staircases built into tree trunks in the house, so can see why. There are two loft rooms, two private flats and the master bedroom.

Anyway, even though the house is gorgeous, the real fun in the house is the group of people we were with. Lots of cocktails, mixed with drinking games and just relaxing in the sun by the pool made for a great holiday. Even though we arrived at about 9pm on Thursday night, we were able to ‘catch up’ and participate in the festivities.

The house was about 15 minutes drive to Byron, but we only went there to get groceries and after we had to leave. Margaritaville was our little oasis and no-one wanted to leave.
